Zoo Director Michael Macek issued a heartfelt statement expressing his profound grief and seeking support during this difficult time. On October 13th, a runaway dog entered the zoo and managed to enter the elephant enclosure, leading to the death of the 27-year-old female elephant despite the zoo's relentless efforts to save her.
The presence of the small dog created chaos among the elephant herd. Although "Rani" herself did not directly encounter the dog as she was indoors having her meal, she sensed the agitation among the other elephants and became visibly distressed.
