Heartwarming Story of Canine Poll Worker Takes Social Media by Storm as "Guardian of Democracy"

In an electoral precinct in the city of Puebla, a dog named Daisy stole the spotlight.

During the elections in Mexico on June 2nd, a heartwarming and peculiar image has captured the attention of social media. It features a dog that was spotted at a polling station, dressed in an improvised outfit resembling the colors of the National Electoral Institute (INE).

Before the polling stations closed, this sight quickly went viral, prompting a wave of comments and applause from internet users across various social media platforms.

Who is Daisy?

The dog, named Daisy, spent the entire time accompanying her owner, who was serving as a poll worker, and won the hearts of both the voters present and social media users.

Her owner, Elena, works as a poll worker in the El Carmen neighborhood in the city of Puebla.

The image of Daisy dressed in a vest similar to those of the INE was captured by several citizens and quickly shared on platforms like Twitter. The dog was roaming around the polling station, seemingly overseeing the entire operation and spreading cuteness.

Many attendees praised the owner's responsibility in ensuring the care of their pet amidst their duties as a poll worker, even putting her to work.

"Why did they think of putting the vest on her?", "That is true inclusion naturally", "So cute! Three years ago, my neighbor's dog followed me and stayed inside the polling station the entire day, until after 4 am when I left", "Election support dog", "Excellent election observer", and "Guardian of democracy" were some of the comments on social media.

Why was Daisy there?

Elena, the poll worker, explained in an interview with Carlos Marín that Daisy is very attached to them, and they can't leave her alone at home for extended periods due to her illness.

"My name is Elena, and I was assigned as a poll worker along with my mom. Daisy is always with us; we are very close to her, and she is very close to us. She has been a bit unwell with her kidneys, so we make sure she's never left alone at home. There's always someone with her to watch over her, and we have to be here all day. I told them I couldn't come here if I couldn't bring Daisy," said Elena.

"To make her fit in more, I made her a little vest like an INE worker," she added with a laugh.
