Dorothy wondered if Aiden's behavior was a result of his father's influence. Did his father teach him to behave like this to constantly worry her? Or was there something more to it?
Could it be possible that he was using their son to spy on her? Dorothy didn't want to believe it, but Michael seemed extremely jealous of her new boyfriend and had already made threats before.
The more she thought about it, the more realistic the spying scenario sounded. Dorothy had a half-day job and would come home shortly before noon. Aiden started behaving strangely at precisely 12:13 p.m. She would already be at home by then, and Michael knew that.
She was convinced that Michael had hidden a recording device or a chip in Aiden's clothing. That's why he would look into his pants every day at the same time. But was she right?
With this thought in mind, Dorothy lifted her son and took him to the changing room. She undressed him and checked his skin before turning her attention to his clothes.
Now that she knew what she was looking for, it wouldn't be difficult to find it. She searched every inch of his clothing and inspected every seam, but she couldn't find what she was looking for.
Dorothy became obsessed with the idea, even going as far as checking Aiden's diaper. But there was no chip or camera to be found anywhere. There was only one place left: Aiden's shoes.
After thoroughly examining his shoes as well, Dorothy was at her wits' end. She couldn't find any signs of a chip. She simply had to accept the fact that there was nothing there. Or was she missing something?
Although Dorothy couldn't find any evidence, she was convinced that Michael was spying on her. And not only that, there seemed to be no other explanation than him using their shared son for it.
Dorothy was desperate and had a long crying fit. Afterward, she came up with the idea of luring Michael into his own trap. Dorothy was in the same room as Aiden when she picked up her phone and dialed the police.
She told the three police officers, who were immediately on high alert upon hearing about the affected toddler, what was going on. Since it involved a young child, the police didn't just come to her.
While the officers made their way to her house, another unit was sent to Michael's apartment. He was arrested on the spot and taken in for questioning. What happened next completely confused Dorothy.
The police took Michael to the police station while Dorothy sat smugly in her chair at home. She knew that Michael would seriously question his decision to spy on her once the police intervened.
But while Dorothy took pleasure in the thought of Michael sitting in handcuffs at a police station, something completely unexpected happened. Dorothy had no idea that the police would come for her as well.
Dorothy heard a knock at her door and had no idea why. She wasn't expecting any visitors and was enjoying her vengeful thoughts. Who dared to interrupt her?
She went to the door and looked through the peephole. But as she saw who was waiting outside, her blood froze. Three uniformed officers were standing in front of her house. Why were they here?
The police knocked on Dorothy's door once again, more persistently this time. Why were they here for her? They should be arresting Michael, not her. But she knew she had to let them in now.
"What can I do for you?" Dorothy asked. The officer greeted her with a smile before telling her something she hadn't expected. Was her suspicion towards Michael correct?
Accusations
The police officer explained to Dorothy what they had found out about her ex-husband. They had taken him to an interview room at the local station and started questioning him about the spying allegations.
But the strangest thing of all was how well he could lie. He was very convincing in pretending to have no idea what was going on. But things weren't as they seemed.
Forgetfulness
The officer told Dorothy that Michael had been completely surprised by the arrest. He seemed unaware of their arrival and had no idea what they were talking about when it came to any kind of espionage.
When they explained that they had reason to believe he had put a chip in his son's pants, he seemed surprised. Had Dorothy possibly wrongly accused her ex-husband?
Didn't make sense
Dorothy couldn't believe what she was hearing. Nothing made sense anymore. If Michael had really been eavesdropping on her, he should have known that the police were coming for him.
Something was off, and Dorothy was scared. Was Michael truly that cunning? Could he lie so well that even the police couldn't figure it out? Soon she would find out just what her ex-husband was truly capable of.
Taking special measures
The officer in Dorothy's house explained the real reason why he was there. He told her that they needed to take special measures to ensure that her son wasn't in any real danger.
With her permission, the officer took out a special device to determine if there were any espionage chips on her son. He assured her it was harmless and would only take a minute, but what would the officer find?
Scanning Aiden
The officer greeted young Aiden and asked if he could scan him. Aiden giggled at the police officer and happily complied. After all, the boy thought it was nothing more than a game.
The officer carefully scanned Aiden from top to bottom with the scanner. After searching for all imaginable electronic devices for five minutes, he made a crazy discovery.
Nothing
The officer looked up at Dorothy, who was waiting with a nervous expression. The officer shook his head and said, "Well, that's good news. I can't find anything on your son." But that wasn't necessarily good news for Dorothy.
Was there really no reason to worry? Or was Michael a bigger genius than she had given him credit for? The officer left Dorothy's house, promising to keep her updated on any new details. Dorothy had time to think about what was really going on at this time.
Michael
But just as she thought she would go crazy because she didn't know, she received an unexpected call. She thought it would be from the authorities, but that wasn't the case. It was from the last person she expected to hear from.
The call was from none other than her ex-husband, Michael. What could he want? Did he want to threaten her again or tell her that he had it out for her? She didn't want to pick up the phone, but she had to know how much he knew. She sighed and answered the receiver. But she wasn't prepared for what he had to say.
Telling her what happened
She was prepared for Michael's anger for calling the police, but things took an unexpected turn when he started explaining what had happened to him. It seemed like he had no idea that Dorothy was responsible for it.
He asked her if the police had shown up at her doorstep and asked about Aiden. Dorothy decided to come clean right then and there. Sooner or later, Michael would find out anyway.
Telling him the truth
Dorothy explained that it was indeed her who had called the police. It was because of the threatening letter and her son's strange behavior. Of course, she thought it was better to be safe than sorry.
When Michael heard her reasoning, he did something that Dorothy never would have imagined in a million years. Michael's next words surprised her. He actually apologized for everything.
The same goes for him
He explained that he had sent the letter in the heat of the moment and didn't really mean what he said. As for the espionage chip, he swore that he would never do something like that to their son. But if it wasn't him, then what was wrong with Aiden?
That's when Dorothy asked a fateful question, "Does he do the same thing when he's with you?" To her surprise, he knew exactly what she was talking about. He told her that around 12:13 p.m., Aiden would pull down his pants and stare downwards.
Unexplained behavior
That meant it was something consistent that he was doing to both of them. But what was happening? That's what troubled Dorothy even more now. She was back at square one, not knowing what was going on. She needed to quickly figure out what was going on with her son.
Since she had no one else to turn to, she asked Michael what he thought about the whole situation. Then they brainstormed a potential solution. Aiden hated going to the doctor, but they had to find out what was wrong.
Examination
Dorothy scheduled an appointment with their local doctor and took Aiden with her. It was a nightmare for the little Aiden to get into the car, but it was the only way. When Dorothy and Aiden arrived at the doctor's office, they sat in the examination room. The doctor prepared to examine her boy.
The doctor distracted Aiden with a lollipop and told him he could keep it if he made it through the examination. His eyes lit up with joy, and he nodded enthusiastically. The doctor looked him over from top to bottom and didn't see any obvious signs of anything strange. He conducted a more thorough examination and after searching for ten minutes, he had some news to share with the concerned mother.
Nothing strange
"I'm happy to say that your young boy is perfectly fine and healthy! There's no indication as to why he has developed this habit."
The doctor recommended keeping an eye on him to see if they could find any further details. Dorothy left the office rather disappointed. She had really hoped the doctor would find something definitive.
Watching Aiden
Dorothy watched Aiden closely in the following days. He would still do the same thing every day like clockwork. There had to be something they were both missing.
But what could it be? They had no idea what it was. Even Michael couldn't figure it out when Aiden visited him. Was it just something that all kids his age did?
Investigation
Dorothy did some online research to try and find out what behavior would be normal for young Aiden. She even borrowed a parenting book from the library to see if there were any old-fashioned explanations.
After going through everything she could, she came to a staggering conclusion that broke her heart even more. Was this really it? Every book and website came to the same conclusion.
Not normal
Aiden's behavior wasn't listed in any of the books or resources. She had to accept the fact that her son simply wasn't normal. But then her phone started ringing.
She looked at the contact and saw that it was her doctor. What news could he have? The doctor told Dorothy that he wanted to see Aiden again as soon as possible.
Second Examination
They quickly scheduled an appointment for the next day. What had the doctor discovered about her son's behavior? The anticipation was almost unbearable for Dorothy.
Dorothy hoped for the breakthrough they were seeking. However, she did not expect a strange and unorthodox method the doctor would use. She would have to wait one more day to find out what exactly was wrong with her son. For inexplicable reasons, she felt even more nervous than before.
Appointment at Noon
Why would he do something strange like looking at his pants every day? Dorothy would find out the answer once she was at the doctor's office. The doctor had requested Dorothy to schedule an appointment for noon.
This meant that Dorothy had to dress and get Aiden ready earlier than the boy preferred. She also had to buy him a lollipop so he would obey. Initially, Dorothy didn't think much about the timing. But she would certainly do so once she saw what the doctor had in mind.
On the way to his office
Promptly at noon, Dorothy and little Aiden arrived at the doctor's office. They went in for the examination once again. But this time, the doctor seemed more concerned than before. What did he want to tell them?
He sat down on his chair and told Dorothy that he specifically wanted to wait for the time when Aiden usually exhibited the strange behavior when he was at Dorothy or Michael's home.
Made Sense
For Dorothy, the time window now made much more sense. The doctor wanted to see what Aiden did for himself and perhaps make a diagnosis from there. It was 12:13 pm, and everyone was attentively observing Aiden.
He was supposed to behave as he usually did. But nothing happened. Why didn't he do what he usually did at 12:13 pm? Then, the doctor did something radical.
The Radio
The doctor got up and walked to the other side of the room. To Dorothy's surprise, he turned on the radio and asked what her favorite station was. More confused than ever, she stammered the station number and set it to that station.
Then he went back to his chair and sat down. What had he done? Yet moments later, she couldn't believe what she saw. It was like day and night. Aiden looked down, immediately pulled down his pants, and stared at the floor.
Placebo Effect
On one hand, Dorothy was relieved that she now had a specialist to consult about Aiden's behavior. But on the other hand, she still didn't understand why he was doing it now but not a few moments ago.
The doctor smiled. It seemed like he knew more than he had previously told Dorothy. But when he felt confident enough to give her an explanation, she was shaken to the core.
The Radio Plays Every Day
The doctor explained his hypothesis to the concerned mother. He asked Dorothy if the radio was turned on around noon every day. She nodded in response. The doctor's smile grew wider. He had definitely solved the case. But what did the radio have to do with his behavior?
"Your son is trying to dance to the radio. However, poor guy doesn't yet know how to dance, so this is his best way of expressing his feelings," he said. Dorothy had to prevent her jaw from touching the floor. Was it all because Aiden was trying to express himself? She couldn't believe it. The doctor told her that with a little encouragement, he would transition from looking to actually dancing. So, Dorothy enrolled him in baby dance classes. He learned the correct way to dance and never unexpectedly dropped his pants again.
