YouTuber finds lost dog while hiking — his camera tripod becomes the hero
In September, Jason Hawkins set out for a hike to a hot spring in Oregon. He had just started walking when two other hikers stopped him on the trail.
They asked if he had lost a dog. They'd spotted a stray animal up ahead, too scared to let anyone near. Jason didn't own a dog himself, but he kept his eyes open as he moved forward cautiously.
About 400 meters in, he saw it: a small dog staring at him from behind a rock. Jason tried to approach, but the frightened pup bolted.
The chase led deeper into the forest. Jason worried the dog would get lost for good. Eventually, the exhausted animal collapsed in a clearing. This time, Jason could get closer. He spotted a collar — proof that someone was missing this dog.
He wanted to reunite the pup with its family, but he had no food and no leash. The dog was too scared to follow him.
Then Jason had an idea. He took the strap from his camera tripod and fastened it to the dog's collar as a makeshift leash. To his surprise, the dog calmed down immediately. It walked beside him peacefully all the way back to the trailhead.
There, Jason contacted the owner. She arrived by car shortly after, overjoyed and deeply grateful. She praised Jason for his quick thinking and kindness.
What started as a simple hike became a rescue story — all thanks to a YouTuber and his trusty tripod.
