A Persistent Dog Chases a Car - When the Police Stop it, the Officers Turn Pale
Another Encounter Reveals New Clues
It started as a regular Monday morning for Peter as he headed to work, following his usual route while savoring his coffee. But then, a red car in front of him caught his attention. The car was driving exceptionally slowly, forcing Peter to do the same. What was going on?
Worried that this situation would make him late, Peter reached for his phone to check the time. However, as he glanced at his rearview mirror, something unexpected appeared - a dog. This was the last thing Peter expected on that fateful morning.
A Speedy Dog
The dog turned out to be surprisingly fast, quickly catching up to the slow-moving red car. Once they were side by side, the dog began barking aggressively. What did the dog know that Peter didn't? Soon after the barking started, the car accelerated.
Realizing it couldn't match the car's speed, the dog gave up and retreated. Peter continued to follow the car, but at an intersection, the red car took the right turn while Peter went left to make his way to work.
Another Encounter
A few days later, Peter decided to use his afternoon off to work at the office. Normally, he would go to work early in the morning, but it was the weekend, and nightfall was approaching. To his surprise, the same red car was being chased by the same dog once again?! This time, Peter was determined to understand what was happening.
First, he worried about the dog's safety. Second, he was afraid that he was somehow involved. It was strange to witness the same scene again, and he couldn't shake off the feeling that something was amiss.
Peter Needs a Plan
Peter devised a plan to unravel this mysterious situation. He decided to take a sick day to dig deeper into the matter. Over the following days, he kept a close eye on the street where the chase always occurred, hoping to gain some insight. Three days went by with no incident, leaving Peter frustrated and wondering if he had imagined it all.
The next day, back at work and lost in thoughts about the tasks that awaited him after his absence, something caught his eye. He saw the red car again! But this time, it didn't drive away once the dog approached. Instead, it continued to drive alongside the dog.
Useful Information
As the dog got closer and grew even more aggressive, the red car sped away. Without hesitation, Peter began to chase after the car. He had to do something, and the truth was within reach. Despite the challenges, he managed to stay close to the red car.
Never losing sight of it, he grabbed his notebook and successfully noted down the license plate number. With enough information to dig deeper, he decided to let the red car go. They would meet again soon.
The Helping Hand
One night, Peter decided to visit his father. Not only had it been a while, but he also believed that his retired police officer father's experience could be useful. His father greeted him with enthusiasm. As a retired detective, he had dealt with his fair share of challenging crimes. He listened attentively, asking many questions. Little did Peter know that one of those questions would be damning...
When his father inquired about the car, Peter casually mentioned that it was red. Suddenly, his father turned pale. He fell completely silent and asked his son to leave. What had Peter unleashed upon his poor father, and what did he know?
On Guard
A day later, as Peter made his way to work, he had one thing on his mind when he reached the infamous street. To his surprise, there was no sign of the dog or the car. However, that morning was about to take a dramatic turn...
When Peter reached the end of the street, he suddenly saw the red car entering from the opposite direction. The dog, even more aggressive than usual, barked as if its life depended on it. But another unexpected visitor was about to make an appearance...
Sirens?!
Coming from the opposite direction, Peter passed by the police. As soon as the officers spotted the red car, they activated their sirens. Things were finally happening! Peter tried to follow the police car by checking his rearview mirror. At the same time, not thinking about the dog, he had to brake abruptly to avoid it. He still managed to stop the car in time.
At the same moment, the police successfully stopped the speeding car. Once they approached the vehicle, they attempted to persuade the dog to come with them. The red car had no chance of escaping, and with the dog now calm, they were about to make an arrest.
Not the Arrest Expected
Peter watched as they prepared to apprehend the driver of the red car. He stepped out of his own vehicle, intending to ask the officers if he would need to testify. But more importantly, why was this dog relentlessly chasing that particular car? But then they asked him to turn around with his hands behind his head...
It was Peter who was being arrested too?! Before his head was placed against the hood of his car, he caught a glimpse of the driver of the red car. His heart stopped. The man was older than he had imagined, and he was his father's former partner when he was still in the police force.
Arrival at the Police Station
But Peter had no time to ponder, as he had to prove his innocence?! The police made him get into the back of their vehicle, ignoring his attempts to explain the situation. Before he knew it, Peter was on his way to the police station. Growing impatient, he repeatedly asked the officers about the nature of the charges against him.
Finally, they gave him an answer: "Sir, you are suspected of being involved in Mr. James' criminal activities, who has also been arrested." Peter still knew nothing, except that the driver had been arrested as well. A man who was, in fact, his father's former colleague...
The Lawyer
Even as he sat there handcuffed, waiting for his lawyer, it was clear that Peter wasn't their priority. Meanwhile, in a well-lit interrogation room, he saw Mr. James being questioned by police officers using rough language. What had they found in his car?! Peter's lawyer arrived shortly after, equally surprised as his client.
He asked if Peter had recently noticed anything unusual about his father (maybe he had mentioned his former colleague). Peter automatically responded that he didn't see his father very often. But then, he remembered the strange behavior his father exhibited during his last visit.
A Promising Start
The lawyer suddenly stood up, eager to hear more. Peter explained that initially, his father had been very helpful but became silent and even hostile when Peter mentioned that it was a red car. The lawyer suggested speaking to the father as soon as possible. Peter agreed, and it was the decision that changed everything. He requested to make a phone call and after a moment, he was granted five minutes.
He called his father. The lawyer advised him to only ask questions about Mr. James and not mention his arrest. But his father refused to cooperate and threatened to hang up several times until he recognized the phone number.
The First Interrogation
Peter admitted that he was in custody. His father's tone changed, and he told him to stay calm and call his lawyer. Peter replied, "Already done. Dad, I really need help!" His father felt responsible. He reassured his son before hanging up, "Hold on. It might take some time, but I will get you out of there!"
Just after the call, Peter was escorted into a room and saw detectives inside. No one looked him in the eye. He had prepared a bit with his lawyer. He felt confident as he could easily prove that his daily route passed through that street to get to work.
Finishing the Interrogation
But that was not what they asked him: they kept questioning him about Mr. James! "He's not familiar to you, young man? You know him, don't you?" Followed by, "Why not just admit that you were trying to make a quick buck?" What were they talking about? The lawyer interrupted, demanding evidence.
Then they left the room one by one. Peter was in shock, but his lawyer was more than pleased. He reassured his client that he would be released soon since the police had no evidence. But Peter still didn't feel comfortable, and he had every reason not to.
Leaving the Police Station
Peter was finally released. The first thing that came to his mind was his father. He said goodbye to his lawyer and informed him that he would call back after speaking with his father. Quickly, Peter arrived at his father's place, and there was a surprise visitor by his side... Peter parked in the driveway before hearing loud barks!
But not just any barks: surely the stray dog that kept chasing the red car. Peter was shocked as much as he was thrilled because it meant that the truth would finally come to light! But appearances can be deceiving, dear Peter...
Searching for the Dog
Peter tried to find the dog since he could clearly hear it barking. The more he searched, the more obvious it became that the dog was inside the house. Peter knocked on the door and saw the dog approaching. It was indeed the stray dog! Peter continued knocking and knocking, but his father was not home. Should he help? Where could his father possibly be?
Since his father didn't have a cell phone, Peter had no other way to contact him. He started searching the surroundings. Was the police also keeping an eye on him? Peter wanted to leave a message for his father, despite the risk that someone else might read it. It was short: "Call me!" and he left with the dog.
Watching the News
Peter returned home with the dog. He needed time to reflect and fully process the situation. After all, his every move was being watched. There was clearly a parked car with a detective inside, observing him. Peter was not far from making a new discovery.
He prepared dinner after finding a comfortable spot for the dog. The pooch resisted at first and only barked. Either it had something to say, or it simply didn't trust Peter. Once calm, Peter finally turned on the news. The evening news was going to be a turning point for him...
Mr. James
The news showed images of Mr. James' arrest?! The journalist explained that the charges against him were still unknown. She also mentioned that the police never revealed the true charges after arresting a former police officer. However, "given the severity of the arrest, he must have done something terrible?!" Was she right? Peter assessed the situation and decided to take a well-deserved rest.
But not before calling his father, as he hadn't returned the message Peter had left. Peter dialed the number, but there was no answer. Then, at the last moment, he heard, "Yes...?" It was his father. The first thing he asked about was the dog. Peter reassured him that he was taking good care of it and that it was safe. He wanted to ask about the significance of the dog, but his father kept repeating not to watch the news. It was too late...
Breakfast with the Lawyer
The next morning, Peter woke up after hearing his doorbell ring multiple times. It was his lawyer who had brought sandwiches and coffee. He asked why he was there so early. "We have something to do today. Please get dressed." Peter decided to take his own car because he needed space for the dog. The lawyer was thrilled that the dog was joining them. He asked Peter to follow closely. After driving for a while, Peter realized they were going to pick up his father.
His father came out of his house and, before getting into the car with the lawyer, looked his son straight in the eyes. The final stop was the police station. The building was surrounded by the media, and the small group was photographed before they even entered. Strangely, as they entered the station, the dog seemed calmer than before. It was the final stop because the truth was about to be revealed...
Stray Dog
Peter and his father entered an interrogation room to talk to Mr. James. They told him everything they knew: Peter's father's experiences and his suspicions regarding his former colleague's criminal activities, and Peter's observations about the red car. After that, they were no longer considered suspects and were even thanked for their cooperation.
The stray dog turned out to be a former police dog, working with Mr. James and Peter's father. The dog reacted to Mr. James' presence because of the drugs he was transporting in his vehicle. That explained the strange behavior and the importance of the dog. Peter's father was allowed to keep the dog, a retirement gift from the police.
